Hands-On Assignment 2


    Social media are internet-based platforms and technologies to facilitate communication and interaction between users. This can include platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, among others. Social networking refers to the use of these platforms to connect with others, share information, and build relationships. It allows users to create and maintain a personal profile, share content and messages, and join groups or communities with similar interests. I use a few different social media sites. 

    The social media sites that I use are Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and Tik Tok. next I will describe what I mainly use each site for. Twitter is used for memes and connecting with other communities. Instagram and snapchat are for communicating with friends and family. Youtube is for entertainment and learning. Tik Tok is only for entertainment. Much of my social media use is taken up by entertainment. I very rarely post anything on social media. These social media sites help to entertain me while I procrastinate doing my homework. Social media use for me is a daily occurrence. Whether i'm in public or in private, I'm probably using my phone for social media in some capacity. I tend to scroll through twitter when I am in public in order to avoid conversation with strangers. I am well aware of the problems that social media have caused in my life but I am completely fine with it. Other than the fact that I may have social anxiety, social media doesn't affect how I feel about myself. I do not have any insecurities that are caused by social media. Although I do not have issues with social media, others may face personal issues when using social media.

    How I feel about family and friends is also not affected by social media. I try to keep my distinction of someone based purely on their real life actions and not their internet presence. People are not the same on the internet as they are in real life. Acknowledging that first helps me to better judge someone on our face to face interactions. However, social media does affect how I view the world. Social media tends to show terrible things that are happening throughout the world. On the other hand, social media also shows many acts of kindness and creates a sense of faith in humanity.

Time Diary

Over the last four days I have been using my phones "screen time" tracking ability to document my usage of social media. I will be discussing my social media usage from February 18th, 2023 to February 21st, 2023.  February 18th, 2023 - On this day my social media use began at around 8:00 am when I first woke up. In the morning I used social media to kill some time before I had to get out of bed and ready for work. That was about 35 minutes worth of time spent on apps like Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok. My social media usage then went quiet from 10:00 am till 3:30 pm, that is when I began my lunch break.
