Welcome to my blog!
Hello people of the internet! My name is Brad Vice and I am from Punta Gorda, Florida. I currently live in Brandon, Florida: located 10 miles east of Tampa. I am a junior at the University of South Florida (USF). I am majoring in information science with a concentration in information security.
As a Floridian, you may suspect my favorite Professional football team to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Miami Dolphins. But I am actually a fan of the New England Patriots. My father has a friend who played for them from 2001-2007. He came over for a barbecue, showed me his Super Bowl rings, and signed a replica patriots mini-helmet for me when I was 4 years old. Without understanding the significance of what they meant, I became a fan of the New England Patriots.
Although I love watching football, I have never played organized football. I was always skinnier than other kids my age; until around my senior year of high school. I began to take an interest in health and fitness after I had graduated high school. With health and fitness in mind, I learned how to cook healthier meals for myself. I love to cook and bake healthy foods.
Another fun fact about me is that, I am a certified diamontologist. I currently work in a jewelry store and I obtained my certification in order to sell diamonds. I previously worked in a gym before going back to college. When living in Punta Gorda, I worked at Office Depot while attending community college. Every job I have had is in sales: which I believe is my strongest work trait.
My favorite social media platform is one that many people tend to disagree with. The social media platform in question is Twitter. I have been a member of Twitter since I was 13 years old, but I didn't consistently use it until I was around 16 years old. Following certain accounts that fit your personal interests makes or breaks the Twitter experience. Twitter was on a downward trend up until the purchase of the social media platform by Elon Musk. Recently I was scrolling through my twitter feed, when I saw a tweet from a politician that made an outlandish claim. Under their tweet was a feature that I had not seen before. Twitter now has a service that fact checks tweets that gain a lot of attention in order to prevent the spread of misinformation. The Twitter service fact checked the politicians tweet and provided evidence that disproved their tweet. This is is my new favorite feature and is why Twitter is my favorite social media platform.
This is the first real blog I have created. I have never followed any specific blogs either. In high school I would watch Casey Neistat's daily vlogs on youtube. That is the closest I've been to following a blog. I don't necessarily know how a blog should be formatted and what blog followers like most about them. Im hoping to find answers to those questions throughout the semester as we use these blogs within our class. I feel like the personableness of a blog is something that I will enjoy.
Thank you for reading my blog and have a wonderful 2023!
Glad to have you in class Brad! Don't worry about Twitter. I at least read posts daily. But you should know, Twitter started Birdwatch a crowd sourced fact checker for tweets in 2021. After Musk bought Twitter, he changed the name to Community Notes. There is some doubt about the authority of crowdsourced fact checking.
